Walk-In Counseling & Referral Services

clip_image002The Emily Program's St. Louis Park office now has walk-in hours available to Emily Program clients.

Our Walk-in and Referral Service is available to all Emily Program clients who have been through the complete intake process, are over age 18, and in urgent need of crisis intervention or support. In other words, when your primary therapist is not available in a timely manner or while you are awaiting a primary therapist (after intake evaluation). This service is currently only available at our St. Louis Park location.

What Qualifies As An Emergency?

The Walk-in Counseling and Referral team is made up of a group of therapists who are well versed in both the treatment of eating disorders and crisis intervention. Walk-in counseling is not intended to take the place of individual therapy. Instead it is a service that can help clients in emergency situations via support, feedback and referral to services outside The Emily Program that will promote stabilization.

Some common uses of walk-in services revolve around acute increases in the severity of depression, anxiety, suicidal/homicidal thinking, and eating disorder symptoms. Sometimes situational stressors promote the use of walk-in services (e.g. conflict at work, loss of a loved one, domestic violence or the consequences around chemical abuse). The question that will help you determine whether or not to use walk-in services is, “Do I need help with this emergency today or can it wait until my next appointment with my primary therapist?”

St. Louis Park Walk-In Service Hours:

              Monday         1:00-3:00 pm
              Tuesday        12:00-2:00 pm
              Wednesday   3:00-5:00 pm
              Thursday       9:00-11:00 am
              Friday           9:00-11:00 am

Counseling sessions are 25 to 45 minutes in length. To utilize this service we ask that you arrive 30 minutes before walk-in hours to complete the needs assessment. Depending on the number of clients in need, there may be a wait.

Spring Yoga Groups

Five new Yoga & Body Image groups will begin this spring in The Emily Program’s St Paul and St Louis Park offices.Yoga & Meditation

In many instances eating disorders and body image issues are intimately linked. For many people who have an eating disorder, anxiety, worry, and pre-occupation with body image are also a part of their struggle. Recognizing this link and working on one’s body image can play a critical role in recovery from an eating disorder.

As a part of a holistic approach to treatment, yoga is a simple and direct way to re-frame body image worry and obsession and focus on the positive things our bodies do, whether they are everyday activities or joyful, healing ways of movement.

At The Emily Program, Yoga & Body Image groups help clients focus on how their bodies feel and move versus how they look. Yoga leaders adapt exercises to any body shape and any experience level. They also provide process time as a part of each group session.
